maltafootball.com went online in August 1996, just a few months after the internet was introduced in Malta. Originally it was just a section inside an unofficial Rabat Ajax website.

The site soon developed to become the Maltese Soccer Web Site which is still the only site that provides a comprehensive guide to football in Malta and Gozo. The coverage provided ranges from the Premier League to the National Amateur League and other competitions organised by the Malta Football Association and the Gozo Football Association.

On its fifth birthday in August 2001, the Maltese Soccer Web Site became maltafootball.com. The site celebrated its twenty fifth anniversary in August 2021.
